Oh, you mean the Scottish pipe band. Yes, I can imagine that is quite an effective deterrent!

Re: Not exactly a pet!

Actually, I have now ordered one of these.

There is a much more spacious area inside (for several mice) so, hopefully, they would be less stressed out.

It looks that big maybe putting a TV set inside may make the mice enjoy a bit of captivity, or at least a set of playing cards

Seriously, it did cross my mind to put a small container of water in with the peanut butter.

It/they should be quite comfortable until I come to check the trap. In fact it should be almost as pleasant as it is for our criminals being sent to our four-star prisons.

Re: Not exactly a pet!

I have been using this trap for a couple of days now.

The first 'partial success': the mouse ate the peanut butter and then pushed open the end cover. It was not particularly secure, but I thought the design would account for this.

The second 'partial success' (as shown): I had taped the cover shut and it felt much more secure. This morning, however, this is what I found.

Either this plastic trap is unfit for purpose or I have on my hands a SUPERMOUSE.

Re: Not exactly a pet!

I had this problem a few years ago, I bought a couple of non-lethal traps, loaded them with cheese and peanut butter and caught several mice over a few nights. They were indeed field mice and I would take them in the traps when I went to walk my dog and release the mice into the long grass beside the brook.

Re: Not exactly a pet!

This latest discovery has given me cause to respect that mouse! A mouse with spirit, a mouse with balls (well, I'm assuming so).

I'm so glad I chose to go on the 'humane' route.

Re: Not exactly a pet!

I use one similar to this, plastic washable, and extremely effective, dab of peanut butter or nuttella proves to be good bait.

Mice do indeed chew through PVC on wires, especially during cold spells. Common occurrence when i was a young Sparky, was to fi9nd fried mouse across electrical terminals or still attached to the cable they were eating.
