Re: Trump - The Long Goodbye

Donald Trump will fly to Florida hours before Biden inauguration, reports say

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...on-reports-say

Donald Trump is expected to leave the White House as president on Wednesday morning, just hours before Joe Biden’s inauguration, flying off on Air Force One to his beachside home in Florida.

Trump’s post-presidential plans have been clouded in uncertainty. But several US news organisations reported on Friday that Trump intends to live at Mar-a-Lago, his Palm Beach resort. His daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner are expected to join him there, at least for some of the time.

When the president arrives at Palm Beach on Wednesday roads will be shut as his motorcade threads its way to Mar-a-Lago. Once Biden is sworn in, however, they will reopen. Commercial flights from the nearby international airport that pass directly over his estate will resume.

It is unclear what exactly Trump intends to do next. It seems inevitable he will spend some of the weeks and months ahead closeted with his lawyers – and, as per his presidency, on the golf course. He faces a second impeachment trial in the Senate and a slew of other legal cases, federal and civil. As an ex-president he loses his immunity from prosecution.

Re: Trump - The Long Goodbye

The Senate leg of the impeachment has yet to be determined.

So far, Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, has not sent the resolution for impeachment to the Senate.

There is still some debate as to whether or not the Senatorial leg is legally moot given that Trump will no longer hold office.

While he does have some immunity, a lack of further action by the Senate does not exempt him from further investigations outside of Congress.

Either either way, Trump still has the right for due process if he seeks it.

It's uncharted territory, for sure.

Donald Trump leaves office with just 34 per cent approval

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...residency.html

President Donald Trump is leaving office with nearly 400,000 Americans dead of the coronavirus, nearly 13 million unemployed – and the lowest approval rating of his entire presidency.

Trump's 34 per cent is the lowest approval rating of his term in the final Gallup poll of his tenure. The president never cracked 50 per cent. He is the only president not to do so since Gallup started measuring presidential job approval in 1938 under F.D.R.

Trump and Richard Nixon are the only ones to score their worst rating in their final Gallup poll.

Trump's average approval during his presidency was 41 per cent, a record low that is worse than Truman's by 4 points.
The ignominy .....

Trump expected to mark final full day in office by issuing around 100 pardons

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...s-live-updates

The recipients of the presidential pardon are expected to include high profile names like that of rapper Lil Wayne.

Lil Wayne pleaded guilty last month to possessing a loaded, gold-plated handgun when his chartered jet landed in Miami in December 2019. He faces a sentence of up to 10 years in prison at a 28 January hearing in Miami.

The New York Times reports that the list of pardons and commutations is expected to include former New York Assembly speaker Sheldon Silver, 76, who was convicted of corruption charges in 2015. After a lengthy legal process, Silver was sentenced in July 2020 to 6-and-a-half years in prison and a $1 million fine. He is currently held in the federal prison at Otisville, New York.

However, sources familiar with the matter who spoke to Reuters have suggested that neither the president himself, nor Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani or ex-aide Steve Bannon will be on the list. Neither will members of Trump’s family get pre-emptive pardons.

While the constitutional legality of a presidential self-pardon remains untested, aides have cautioned Trump that pardoning himself and members of his family may imply guilt that becomes a liability in future state or civil lawsuits against the Trump family and businesses.
The list of those pardoned will be interesting reading .....

That's more than Dubya's lowest which was just 25%, and it's more than the French Macron's current 32%.

It also depends on who you ask, he got 10 million more votes this time around compared to 2016. He got the 2nd most votes in any election which means he is basically only less popular than Biden.... if you believe Biden didn't cheat.
