No it wasn't a Cleome, I think it was one of my patio roses called "Raspberry Royale". It was smothered in lovely red blooms but eventually succumbed to bad Black Spot and had to go.

Sorry, Mups, my mistake, I meant your second pic not the first, the beautiful variegated blue flower. But on looking at it again I think it looks more like an agapanthus?
