I always buy King Edwards they have a good flavour and are very floury making them ideal for roast, baked and chips.

Desiree are more waxy and best for dauphinoise potatoes
Many supermarkets sell them also local greengrocers.

Yes - always liked me King Edwards - must be all the rain we've had, every dose of potatos I've bought, no matter what they are, have been awful.
Will try the Edwards again, maybe better now .... and, the Maris ....

Whatever they have cheapest or tinned new potatoes - it's important for me not to enjoy them too much so I limit my consumption !

But for a nice potato I quite like those Albert Bartlett potatoes which I think may be Russets or something similar.

I've always bought Maris Piper as they're a good all-rounder.

A good universal potato I always use are 'reds' - ok for roasting, baking and steaming.

Re: Which - is best

I grew Duke of Yorks this year but had a disappointing crop then had some other reds, Sarpo Mira - odd name!
Finished them off quickly because they were so tasty, all of 'em!
Supermarket taters don't seem to have a taste anymore do they?

We don't have a proper local Greengrocer here and I couldn't find anyone selling King Eddies locally either.

Might try them next year if I can get the seed potatoes! stevmk2

Maris Pipers for me ..... great for roasting and a good all rounder. Not keen on the reds though.
