However, the EU is intended to keep states from armed war by having them trading. Which is sort of a war, in its own way.

Good luck with that one, with Norway we control just about everything. Zonal attachment will be the only way to fish our waters, Norway, Canadas, Icelands and the USA. The CFP is a policy that controls 6 miles off the cost of mainland Europe where there's no fish anyway

Not in a good way (for the EU) either.
European Parliament budget negotiators walked out because (surprise) the Council didn't seem to want to reach an agreement (does that sound familiar?) .
Germany tried dangling a carrot in vain hopes that a bit of dosh would do the trick - and Poland reacted by saying it would veto the budget because they were being blackmailed into agreement!
This is for a budget due to cover the period 2021 to 2027, so starting within mere months, remember.
The UK leaving the EU is already having a major negative impact for the EU.
