Re: Should we ban Fairy Tales

I used to consume all the Enid Blyton Boarding Schools for Girls books as a child

I wondered if I'd ever know what lacrosse actually was
(I used to pronounce it as lay cross in my head)
And whether I'd ever see someone box someone else's ears!

But I never felt inferior

Anybody with half a brain knows the difference between fact and fiction
Even at the age of 3
Otherwise we'd believe everything we heard and saw...including cartoons!

Re: Should we ban Fairy Tales

I think fairy tales helped us all as kids to realize that life was no bed of roses, shit happens and fairy tales are a way of gently telling us to be on guard for the baddies in this world, a good thing to know in my book.
I certainly enjoyed the fairy tales and the ghost stories my granny used to tell the brother and me, did us both a power of good and helped us later to face up to what the world can throw at us all, God bless you granny dear, big ears and all.

Re: Should we ban Fairy Tales

I remember when my niece (born from two English language academics) at around 4 years of age used to pretend to read stories to her toys..

She would begin "One a poncy time..."

Internally, it made me gleeful!!!
