Re: Manners and Courtesy?

What annoys me about the manners thing and calling people by their first name is this. Why do NAs and other nursing staff insist on calling older people in their care by their first name or "sweetheart" or "darling" and many of the other sorts of endearments ? These names are meant for someone you know well, not an elderly, vulnerable patient in a bed who they barely get to know. So many times I have heard these words said and it really gets my back up. If I was an old lady (or man) in a hospital bed I would be most annoyed and feel compelled to let them know about it. These staff have training in respect, dignity and privacy issues, but I wonder if some of them even have an awareness of what they are saying half the time. Grrrrr.

I`m pretty relaxed-Dr is my title but `Steph` will do.

But it`s Stephan-not Stephen that makes me cross-and woe betide those who not only miss the spelling but call me Steve.

They get the other side of my tounge

Youngsters around here don't know the meaning of yes, please and thank you - some grown ups don't either mind you!
