Warning to women drivers

I just got this from America but don't know if it's true or not.

While driving on a quiet rural road on Thursday morning, I saw an infant car seat on the side of the road with a blanket draped over it. For whatever reason, I did not stop, even though I had all kinds of thoughts running through my head.

But when I got to my destination, I called the police who said they would check it out but first they warned …..

"There are several things to be aware of ... gangs and thieves are now plotting different ways to get a person (mostly women) to stop their vehicle and get out of the car….it’s a gang initiation where they place a car seat by the side of a rural road..with a fake baby in it...waiting for a woman, of course, to stop and check”

Re: Warning to women drivers

They may say this is false, but other similar things have happened. For example, stories about people who stop to help someone who appears to be broken down on the side of the road and they're beaten, robbed and, in some cases, their cars are stolen.

Here's just one example that happened yesterday.

This is what you get for helping people these days. Which is why I never do. So whether the car seat thing is legit or not, I appreciate it being posted because you never know if someone is actually going to do something like this.

Thank you, tootsweet.

And then there's the recent cases of people loading up shopping in car parks and having their cars stolen while they do so.

Re: Warning to women drivers

I really don't care if Snopes say these tricks are false. Incidents that have occurred in the last several years have just caused drivers, particularly women drivers, to never stop at what appears to be somebody in a problem at the side of the road. I have certainly abided by this, and fortunately, so far, I have not had to travel on and call police when well out of range of a particular 'incident'.

It has spoiled the 'good Samaritan' attitude hasn't it. What a a horrible world this world is becoming.

I'm not quite following what you mean by people loading up shopping in car parks. Do you mean unloading their groceries into their cars?

Re: Warning to women drivers

Thanks Linda, I thought it was worth posting because I would probably stop without thinking, so it's just a warning to be vigilant.

I once had a young male driver bang into the back of my car. He indicated to me to drive around the corner to get out of the heavy traffic and dummy me did it and yes, he shot through. So my insurance had to pay for a new rear bumper and I was stuck with a $500 excess. Weird things happen when you're driving.

Can't argue with that one.

Well then instead of apologizing why you can't see how I misunderstood, explain it to me then. That would be nice.
