Jingle Bells

We just listening to Steve Wright on the radio. By adding some bells onto a track, it turned it into something christmassy.

Apart from the somewhat obvious thing about reindeer wearing bells as they pull sleds along (presumably to warn others of their approach during dark times), does anyone know if there are any other connections between bells and Christmas?

Todger, if (for a change) you could avoid googling it and then claiming you knew it all along, then that would be appreciated

Like mistletoe and a few other things, the ringing of bells at Christmas actually goes back to pagan times where bells were used to keep away demons.

The use predates Christianity by quite a bit, and the theory is that the use of such things was incorporated into Christian festivals to keep the masses who had believed in such pagan frivolities happy.

At a guess, I'd say that Christmas could be related to Churches - and Churches use Bells to remind people where they are!

Anyway, Merry Thingy, Dext & Happy New Whatsit!

Re: Jingle Bells

It could be to do with Leper’s ringing their bells at Christmas and chanting, ‘Unclean, Unclean’?
It’s more likely to be Bells welcoming in Christmas time.

Anyway, l only know the version... ‘Jingle Bells, Batman smells’!

Re: Jingle Bells

Thanks for the insightful replies so far, which unfurtunately doesn't include the bit about the caped crusader
