She is completely heterosexual as far as I am aware. She gave up performing to bring up her children she had with her husband, Fred 'Sonic' Smith of the MC5, who died young at 45. Her son is in her backing band.
I have long been an admirer. I seen hr interviewed several times and she comes across as a warm, witty, generally nice person, something completely at odds her forbidding stage presence.
