Scruton is a retired philosophy don (an aesthetician), an extreme right-wing Tory from the Salisbury Review group, well-known for his yearning (like most Tories) to turn the clock back 150 years or more.

He fell out of favour a few years back by soliciting payments from tobacco companies for placing articles in highbrow publications like the Times Literary Supplement supporting the public's "right" to kill themselves smoking tobacco.

An articulate, clever and greedy man who just loves to wind-up anyone to the left of himself - that's about 95+% of people in the UK.

Ah, but is a spade considered to be a masculine tool?

I wonder whether for the sake of equality we should assign a different tool or garden implement the female gender.
