Dementia

Extraordinary that it's not classed as an illness .

Re: Dementia

WOW Muddy. This is some crazy stuff. How can this possibly be so? People kissing their faculties, not able to function at all and it’s not considered a disability? There should be outrage from everyone!!!

People could become homeless due to this gross over-site.
It’s outrageous. I had to check if it is covered here in Canada since my folks are slipping and it is.

I found this link for UK

Re: Dementia

I don’t remember my parents ever mentioning this this ....and what is it if it isn’t an illness ?
Me , getting older by the day , I’m feeling scared stiff of it , whether it’s something you pick up or succumb to , why didn’t they ?

Re: Dementia

How can it not be called an illness? It's a degenerative disease, incurable at present.
What do they class it as then? Temporary forgetfulness? Absent mindedness?
They don't want to call it an illness because they don't want to be subsidising the patient's and their families' care costs.

Re: Dementia

There must be a reason why some people, including bright clever people, get Dementia and others don't!

Re: Dementia

I'm glad this is under the spotlight. Of course it's a health condition. The whole health/social care split was always about saving money. We should be a society that looks after its elderly not throws them in the bin.

Indeed when they find out why they will be on the road to prevention.

And I should definitely do a spell check before posting or at least while I can still edit.

Re: Dementia

It would be wonderful if dementia could be prevented.

My husband much older brother died last month after suffering from dementia for many years, he had been completely out of it for the last five or so. His death came as a great relief to his whole family.
