Open your door the dutch way
When you open your car door to get out , you should use your left hand to pull the handle, this forces you to look over your shoulder and can then see if any cyclists or other road users are coming, obviously that is assuming you are parked in the road, the passenger can do the same but with their right hand, this is normal practice in the Netherlands apparently and is a lot safer.
