All you needed to do was click upon 'manage options' and then disallow any incursions. . . most sites do this including on-line newspapers.

Re: Time for Ireland to Grow Up?

Hi

We knew Brexit was always going to result with a Border with the EU.

We knew this would cause problems with the Good Friday Agreement.

We have rejected the EEA Model, rejected staying in the Single market and the Customs Union.

We rejected the May Solution and she lost her job and Boris renegotiated it, knowing there would be a border in the Irish Sea.

He now says this was done in error.

Our bad.

Simple fact of life, if we are not in the EU we have a Border with them.

We are insisting on a Hard Border across the Channel, the EU are insisting on protecting their Border.

There is, in reality, no difference between the two things.

As a sovereign country, we are perfectly entitled to have a border with any other country.

Most of our borders are in the ocean. The one exception is the land border between NI and Eire.

There has always (or at least since 1922) been a land border there.

We are not proposing creating any physical border between NI and Eire.

If any such physical border is to exist, it will be put in place by the EU. We are not interested in having a physical border.

Consequently, if Bidet and the Irish-Americans don't like it, I'd suggest they speak to the Brussels bureaucrats.

Why does everyone seem to want to blame us for everything?

Hi

There will have to be a physical border if Boris does not want one in the Irish Sea.

Re: Time for Ireland to Grow Up?

Anyone who seriously thinks the US will not grant the UK a trade deal because of the "Irish Lobby" needs to remember what the EU did to Ireland back in 2012 with the full support of Ireland's American friends. Not sure? Ray Bassett is an ex Irish diplomat and was part of the Irish team during the Good Friday Agreement talks. While discussing the EU Irish bailout in his recent book he says,

"I later had the opportunity of discussing the terms of the Bailout with the Canadian PM, Stephen Harper, when he was about to visit Ireland, and the Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty. Both expressed private horror at what the EU had inflicted on Ireland. Flaherty simply said "You were screwed", while Harper asked, "Are these people supposed to be your friends?"

He goes on to say that the two Canadians were very helpful to Ireland when dealing with the IMF, where Canada has a lot of influence.

He continues "This was in marked contrast to our so-called EU friends. It was also in marked contrast to the attitude of the United States, where Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner lined up with the faceless officials of the ECB to pressure Ireland into the Bailout."

If there is a No Deal then the EU will want to protect their precious single market so some arrangement will have to be worked out between them and ROI. Not saying a "hard border" or anything like that will be put in place but there will be some solution. Politicians (remainers) have been using the term "hard border" for ages now in order to instil fear into the minds of people and for propaganda purposes, despite the fact that all sides to the debate have insisted it won't happen.

Re: Time for Ireland to Grow Up?

Irish Americans really amaze me .
Why are they still banging on about Ireland.
Their ancestors left the place to get a better life .
They used to have this illusion that all the poor Irish were still being abused by the English and so Financed NORAID so they could blow us and our children up in the high street .
( I love Irish rebel songs BTW but that is history now )
The bombing of the Boston Marathon made them have a rethink .
Ordinary defenceless people were killed and maimed .
There has never been a hard border between Eire and NI .
If the EU want one let them build one .

The WTO.

The rules are very simple, if we let goods from Eire come in unchecked we have to let goods from the rest of the World come in unchecked.
