Re: Is this legal ?

As others have said, its not illegal to drive barefoot however, you must be in control of your vehicle, and you could be putting yourself and other road users at risk , also you are not able to apply suitable brake pressure if driving barefoot, in an emergency, it makes sense to wear suitable footwear whilst driving to have the correct feel of the pedals .

The word "sensible" is the key.....and no prosecution would come about for not wearing shoes...it'd be too difficult to prove it was a factor for an accident.
I cannot imagine how women drive in very high heels that would not be safe in my opinion.

It isn't safe - that's part of the reason I started kicking off my shoes when I got into the car.

I prefer to drive with footwear covering my feet.
I think you get a better grip , so to speak.

It might be worth having a word with your insurance company Julie. In case of accident or injury not wearing shoes whilst driving could quite possibly affect any claim.

Worth checking with them Julie, you know how insurance companies can be, everything picked at to avoid paying out.

It won't affect a claim......there's no possible way they can prove lack of footwear to be a cause...ieven if they could it would not effect any third party claim.

NOOOO, NEVER check something like this....by asking you are admitting to behaviour that may be construed as irresponsible.

This will be logged and, god forbid you have an accident will/may become a subject of investigation.

Similar to advice given the early days of AIDS(HIV).

Advice was to take tests anonymously as it was viewed(by Life Assurance Companies) that by taking the test you were admitting you were a part of a promiscuous society...a risk.
