Re: China Must get It's Come-uppance?

Hi

We are reliant on China for so many things we no longer produce ourselves.

We need to replace that manufacturing capacity before we can do anything constructive.

We are a decade away from doing that.Self harm is not the way to go at the present time.

Then it's time to stop being reliant on China. We could always start by cancelling the contract for 5G and certainly do NOT consider Chinese built/operated power stations!!!

Hi The power stations are not a luxury we have any choice over.

The deed is done, being built by the French with Chinese Finance.

It will mean we have the most expensive electricity in Europe.

Then we - and hopefully other countries too - should impose quarantine rules on everyone arriving from China! That should be a fairly obvious indication of how we feel about them!

Yes we did have a choice Swim...
They closed down some perfectly good coal fired stations (3 around here) after pressure by the save the planet cranks and tree hugging brigade, before putting alternatives in their place. Thankfully Drax is still providing 6% of the nations electricity.....No thanks to the greens....

Drax Power Ltd
Drax Power Ltd, which operates the largest power station in the UK, based at Selby, North Yorkshire and supplies six percent of the country's electricity needs.

OGF Australia is thinking of giving up on China. It is big ask as they are our largest trading partner as we, like the UK sold out to the commies because they produce things so much cheaper than we can in the west. This virus has woken us out of our comfort zone to a new push for local manufacture because of broken supply lines of Chinese goods. Sco Mos calling for an inquiry to the origins of this virus has already pi**ed off Beijing. I expect if we seek other markets for goods previously produced in China.. that will p*** em off even more.

Sounds like a plan Swannie, I wish we would go down the same path as Australia. People moan here about the UK not being able to go self sufficient, but every expedition starts with a first step, and I believe we should at least make a start. Maggie Thatcher had the right idea with her 'Buy British' slogan, and if we had been serious then, we would have been a lot less reliant on foreign goods (especially Chinese ones) now. It would have provided British jobs with workers paying more tax into the country's coffers, a win win situation.
Sometimes the British public prefer to go for the easiest and cheapest solution, but it's come back to bite us on the bum....

Absolutely no fossil fuel power generation. That must never be allowed to happen.
