Re: Home Insurance?

We used to stick with the same companies each year, because we thought we had better things to do with our time. Wrong, we now check them all out at renewal, the only down side is that each year I get lots of unwanted emails from companies wanting to quote and letting me know if it is up for renewal.

We still go to compare just to check who is the best, I have stopped ringing up the companies to renew my insurance now as they spend too much time trying to get me to buy different things, I used to get so annoyed. It didn't matter what you said to them about not mentioning any other insurance I only want what I have rung up about, they paid no attention.

Re: Home Insurance?

try finding decent cover for an unoccupied property! I've spent hours and the best part of a week trying to find exactly what I need but they all have different clauses, it's been a nightmare!

This type of insurance is very expensive as there are many things to consider to ensure you get the right cover, malicious damage, burst pipes, forced entry, there's a list as long as my arm!

I wouldn't bother ringing them up about it. By the looks of it 'Compare The Market' makes them compete for your business and even though they get a cut the results are ridiculously cheap. When I rang up Castle Cover they asked how much I was going to pay with the AA and I said £83 (beat that I thought). They only tried to cast doubt on the cover I was going to get, which was nonsense as it was as good as their own. Their own was listed too at less than half the amount I was paying!

Just get a quote off Compare The Market otherwise they will definitely quote you a higher price over the phone.

Re: Home Insurance?

I was told by somebody in 'the know' that we will all end up with the same insurance policy, irrespective of who we buy it from.

Churchill, the AA, SAGA, etc. are all insurance brokers - they don't actually insure you themselves. They earn their money through commission. It's something like a Stock Broker. We, the public, are not allowed to have direct trading access.

Somewhere, in the invisible murkiness of high finance, there is a super-insurer who takes all of the policies.

Re: Home Insurance?

I've just purchased buildings only cover and found it far cheaper by checking out Brokers rather than comparison sites, saved a fortune!
