Single Market 'distortion' exposed

– 99.8% of EU goods do NOT pass through NI.

BRUSSELS has been accused of "weaponising peace" in Northern Ireland with its claim that goods crossing the Northern Ireland border would put the integrity of the entire single market at risk.
The latest data available shows only 0.2 percent of goods imported into the bloc cross the boundary between the Republic of Ireland and the Six Counties. The figure flies in the face of dire warnings coming from Eurocrats for months, suggesting the bloc's single market would be undermined if checks on goods travelling from Great Britain to Northern Ireland are not carried out.

Does that mean that 99.8% of the goods going to the RoI (either direct from the UK, overland to a UK port, or direct from an EU port) enter via Dublin Port, Dun Laoghaire, Rosslare Europort, and Cork?

Of course not LD !
Why would UK smuggle goods into Europe via Northern Ireland
when we have a perfectly good connection via Calais/ Ostend etc !!
It's total blox !!
There must be some figures somewhere showing much stuff from
ROI actually goes from there to Europe ??

As it has been stated that 99.8% of EU goods do NOT pass through NI, then other routes are being accessed for goods arriving in RoI.

Donks, I think you've misunderstood what I said. The RoI (Republic of Ireland) IS in the EU.

Surely EU has to access the ROI market somehow ?
And as we supposedly have a trade deal with EU , so do we ??
Or is it really all about sausages ??

Yes, they have shipping routes via ferry ports from mainland Europe into the RoI.

Re: Single Market 'distortion' exposed

This claim by the EU that they have to protect the integrity of the single market is BS when only 0.2% of goods travel between the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

If anything, the UK should be protecting the integrity of its single market.
