There are no tradesmen left, does'nt matter what job you need done, best do it yourself if you can.

Basic skills in the automotive, building and medical professions seem to have vanished

Lads leaving school nowadays who want to learn a trade go to a local college for 2 years, get a diploma for which ever subject they've taken, then get set loose on the public after a year working as an apprentice.
When I left school apprenticeships were a minimum of 5 years, this was working on the job with other journeymen, you don't learn a trade in a college.
Just like those lads in the Vauxhall garage, they're only semi-skilled fitters, good for oil changes and fitting a set of wiper blades on a car but that's about it.

My daughter had a nasty injury to her hand 2 years ago, she spent 2 days in hospital, they put a dressing on for her when she was discharged and it was a disgrace, I took pics of it, I'll try and dig them out and post them.

Re: Blood pressure

It's coming down every day, . . if it gets any lower I'll need a foot pump to boost it.

It was 169/93 this morning, the normal reading for my age is 150/84 or thereabouts so I'm well on the way.

Thanks Joan, there are various reactions that may affect you, coughing, itching, redness and swelling of the face, and a few more, the only one I've noticed is a slight cough.

Re: Blood pressure

Nero that is still very high, my Dr. likes me in the latter 130 or early 140's for my age. Your bottom number is excellent when in the 80s or lower.

I don't think your blood pressure readings are different than ours?

According to the WHO
Normal readings are 120-129/80-84,
Normal high is 130-139/85-89,
Moderate hypertension is 160-179/100-109, - consult GP.
Severe hypertension is 180-219/110-119, - consult GP.

Older people will tend to have higher readings according to their age.

Re: Blood pressure

Mine has always been in the low range: usually about 114/72. Hasn't changed in years.

Re: Blood pressure

My blood pressure has gone up again, I am on Ramipril 2.5, It was still on the high side but I managed to get it down a bit more with diet. I have a review in December.

I lost about a stone recently but was told that my weight wouldn't make a difference to BP. I was taking my BP twice a day for a month and out of interest took it after going out with the dogs, 4 naughty B's trying to chase everything in sight and pulling my arms out of their sockets, it was lower when I got back than before I set off!

I had a similar experience at the hospital, my blood pressure was so high they had to keep pumping the machine up to get a reading and were concerned but I told them its hardly surprising when its almost impossible to park the car and you arrive late and stressed out.

Re: Blood pressure

I worked in a doctors office (stressful enough!) so got it read regularly; but mine too was always up when going to see my doctor!
