I would never criticise a neighbour for the way they have done something, it's their house and they have done their best, we aren't all perfect after all.

And I certainly wouldn't 'piss myself laughing' at their misfortune.

I am working towards building my own property, whilst still able, you can learn some stuff by practising small scale, One important thing I have learnt is about slate lath, Its Ok using a course spacer at either end but, if the lath is warped, the slight deviation is noticeable once the tiles are fitted, Top Tip, use the spacers then fit a string line and screw (not Nail) the lath according to the string line.

Re: Know it all neighbour ? not

Building a side flank extn rear of attached garage was hard enough, the trench for wall support had to be a metre deep and 6 inches wider than the wall, that was the ruling back then. I used 9x9x18" blocks for the wall
Ever tried digging out about 30ft of heavy yellow london clay that wide and deep by hand? it is a killer of a job let alone getting rid of it through a garage into a large skip

If you want to be sure, you can get pre-warped from B&Q!

Good point.
Not long enough and you're stuffed.
Too long, and you've over-spent.

An insoluble problem.
