However when presenting a photo surely the best quality is desirable? A 52 MB photo has got to be better than say a 4MB photo which downloads a lot quicker.

That photo I posted is a lot closer to what I see on my monitor, a smaller file will degrade a lot more over he internet depending on how it is sent.
try clicking on it to enlarge really makes it stand out quality wise, and the is even not with my best camera
full screen blows me away
All true RS but there are some super-sharp photos shown here (including your own) that aren't that size. I realise it was an experiment though and the comments were I hope conversational rather than a criticism.

I'd say you don't need that sort of size for Internet photos. Most images shown here are smaller in physical size, below 500KB but still have good sharp quality.

Re: pot plant

with a download internet speed of 34 mbps it took about 8 to 10 seconds to appear as a completed picture.

I would love to know what the internet download speed is from those who said it was slow , out of curiosity which might explain it.

if any slower than mine with a faster download speed then I would look at upgrading the computer

just look up speed test on the internet
I use one by Ookla

24.7mbps and around 7 seconds to load but still too long to wait for a pic of a pot plant.

Re: pot plant

About the experiment: I don't think there's any way around it, 52 megabytes and 7360 x 4912 pixels is just plain too big for Internet display.

The speed of the computer might enter into it to a degree but the main reason for keeping images to a reasonable pixel and file size is so they display quickly on the slower Internet speeds that ISPs provide. Some won't be able to get good enough speeds to download a 52MB photo quickly.

Also, the pixel size of the photo is bigger than monitors can fit on the screen without it being viewed at something less than the actual photo size. I guess some definition will be lost because of that.

I wouldn't say the photo's definition is really much better for it being displayed at that size, so it would be better all in all to keep resizing photos? Even if it did lead to greatly improved quality, the problem under discussion exists, so the large size couldn't be used regularly without further comments about slow display.

How patronising. Instead of saying upgrade your computer, why don't you upgrade the quality of your photos?
52mb ? and the image quality still isn't that good.

Re: pot plant

I did add under the photo it was a "try out". Seems my other posts in reply have disappeared.. Still with this new lens the focus issue seems to have been resolved. I would have preferred to use the Nikon D810 camera but that has gone for repair after the popup flash got accidently damaged

Gasman suggested quote "why don't you upgrade the quality of your photos?" unquote

answer
Quality is in the eye of the beholder, not a fixed definative point. Therefore what I am totally happy with the picture obviously you are not.

You can please some people some of the time- you can please all of the people all of the time- and others you can never please at any time. That is how life works
