Super Trawler invasion!

News reports say there are up to 10 foreign owned or flagged
super trawlers en-route to UKs fihing grounds with a couple more
allready dragging their nets up and down the channel !
What are they trying to do? Clean all the fish out before we leave
the EU?? Most of them sail under a flag of conveniece to allow
them access to our waters, l think they should sail under the jolly
rodger, better known as the skull and crossbones??
This is no more than thieving and probably breaks several laws
concerning the enviroment and conservation?
What can we do? I know what we SHOULD DO!!
But will we?

Its still there Percy, the fishing industry has long been dodgy
business, a lot of fishing companies are little more than pirates!
These are multinational companies often and some of them have
allready been banned from Australian waters due to the problems
they cause!
However they find it easy to get a foothold in less affluent regions
such as Africa by means of corruption etc with high placed officials
in government, to the detriment of the local fishermen and the
enviroment and sustainability!

It's still there. You see, they are not breaking any laws or rules. Their methods are even less detrimental for the environment than the conventional methods (according to scientific study).
It will undoubtedly mean less fishermen, but as shropsiregirl once pointed out, we have to sacrifice for global climate. The dutch pig and cattle farmers have to reduce their flocks, the british fishers will have to find other jobs. But since brexit will bring jobs galore, this is the right moment to stop fishing. You will agree?

Like I said, no rules are broken. Would you fire grenades in front of unarmed commercial boats? That sounds like an act of war or even piracy. And you are such a peaceful people!

I thought the North Sea and basically all British (and European?) waters were fished out decades ago. What was the point of the Cod Wars with Iceland if they weren't? Not to mention the demise of local fishing fleets like the fleet where I grew up in Folkestone - all the boats in the harbour look like pleasure craft these days.

They have broken no rules Solly, because the rules were made to
accommodate them!
How can the catch be inspected when its 2000 tons of frozen
solid solid fish?? Or even allready packed into tins?

That's why quota were introduced. The leave enough adult fish to re-populate what has been taken out. It requires a strict adherance to the allotted portions.
