The heating seemed to bring out the flavour of the almonds, something similar to toasting spices in a dry pan when making curry perhaps?

Re: Almonds

Is there a reason you don't buy the pre blanched naked almonds as they are the same price?

Nope, never heard of them.

Just googled and it seems the blanched word means nothing more than skinned ... sounds fine.

I have natural yoghurt, small handful of almonds (about 5) a fistful of granola or muesli then I drizzle manuka honey, sometimes I have raspberries or strawberries too.

Eaten in moderation they are so good for us nutritionally.

Ditto, that is very like my usual breakfast too, though usually I have blueberries and half a banana on mine.
I usually get my almonds in Lidl as they seem to be the cheapest They also sell chilli mixed peanuts and cashews which are delish with something long and cool in a glass

I've always wondered if roast chestnuts are nice too and how is best to do them.

I put them on a metal skewer so no need to slit them, and it makes it easier to turn them.
I either do them in front of the open fire or in the Rayburn which is usually lit when the chestnuts are in season. But I have done them in the electric oven too, I suppose around 180-200'. If you don't have a metal skewer you could just put them on an oven tray, as Westender said, poke a knife in them first to break the skin so they don't explode!
