Like taking back control of the borders? Both boris and patel now cry they need the french to stop incoming migration. How's that for controlling the borders?

As we all know there is nothing new or sudden crisis about these rubber boats. But it efficiently deflects attention from the (mis)handling of covid and the contours of the brexit fiasco.

Don't worry it will come. I seem to remember chatter in OFF that the UK government were already applying austerity measures long before covid came along. No doubt they wouldn't dare at the moment for fear their heads might appear on stakes after the obvious failure of both the government and the NHS to cope with Covid. A population can only take so much before they revolt.

Funny how you draw the same conclusion that the EU rulers are accountable for nothing... its another reason we left.

You'll have to point out where I said that.

Here is the bit

"Naturally any government is very pleased with any galah blaming the EU (or indeed any one but them) for austerity/poverty, it saves them having to come up with excuses because it is always someone elses fault. "

Austerity is what happens when you vote in left wing governments, Bruce. Everyone knows a vote for labour is a vote for austerity further down the line.

If you think that is saying that the EU is not accountable for anything then comprehension is obviously not your strong point. It is talking about the UK government.

You said "any government" - in the case of the EU they blamed the financial crash for austerity while hiding behind the fact that the Eurozone is completely powerless to adjust its currency value to compensate and instead, austerity is the only option the members of the Eurozone have to recover their economies. The Eurozone is still bailing itself out, it still hasn't recovered and it hasn't worked. Austerity continues, while the UK, USA and other countries moved on years ago. They still blame the financial crash of 2008/2010 ... 10 years down the line.

The EU aren't accountable for anything. How do you get rid of the commission - you can't vote them out or anything, so how can you say they are accountable ?

To what and to who ? If member states go bankrupt they just borrow more money and get others to pay for it - they don't care, all they want is more power and control. The commission is just a glorified civil service that serves itself and feeds itself on what it grabs from. the 27.

Look at immigration - Australia has its own points based system that works extremely well. Just for arguments sake, if Australia joined the EU would you be happy being forced to adopt the EU immigration rules and if not, what could you do about it ?

In 2018 australia gave asylum to 12,700 refugees, on a population of ca. 25 mln.

The UK in 2019 granted asylum to 11,596 refugees on a local population of 68 mln.

Of course, the british country is getting overcrowded, whereas australia isn't.

The netherlands in 2019 granted asylum to 11,890 refugees, on a local population of 18 mln.

Your figures only cover asylum seekers not migrant workers.

Try again, and also, include the 1 million Merkel invited over, where a lot of them ended up here. You might also want to check your migrant quotas from the EU commission that you will be receiving over the next 7 years.

The UK has its own points based system that comes into force on the 1st January 2021. You do not, you have to do what your told by the unelected commission.
