This is what I don't understannd either. I looked at lots of forums. I read at this one for a while before I registered. I only registered when I was sure I could be able to join in and intended to do so. I do understand that it's hard to jump into the conversation with new people. It was hard for me to considering the cultural differences.. but I manage.. and make no apologies for my differences. Vive le difference I always say..

Some forums however don't let you read and see the membership until you register.. I can understand getting in and deciding it wasn't a good fit.. But when you can look why register if you don't believe you can fit in.

I know - I was referring to those you can look at tho' ....
I know of one forum that has around 5 new members a day - they never post anything !

I think it takes a lot of courage to make your first post.
Well, it did me when I first registered with another one a few years back.

I took the plunge after a few weeks and started a thread introducing myself and another one asking about people's avatars/usernames. The response was fantastic and I really felt I'd "made it". Never looked back after that and became a regular-ish poster.
