Do you think it would be appropriate for me to ask my doctor to refer me for a bone density test?

I haven't been offered one!!

Yes, definitely ask Carol. I'm surprised it hasn't been suggested anyway.

Re: Bone density test

I had a scan the other month Carol. I didn't ask for it but because I have
come off of HRT because of the cancer. I told them my bones were going when I went on it 20 years ago. So they did it for me. They said that I need Calcium tablets with Vit D which I now take I haven't broken a bone but having done two I certainly think you have to kind of demand it. I don't take a tablet though so don't know what they are. Just the Calcium and Vit D.
I did go see a Doctor the other month at the QMC who specialises in the Menopause. He said that you must keep your intake of Calcium up in your
diet like cheese, milk, broccoli etc. Go for it Carol and get some treatment even if its just the Calcium tablets. Good luck.

I didn't know you could regain some lost height but it makes sense really. I don't take calcium but I am fairly tall and do a fair amount of exercise and I do eat dairy.

Wot Mups said. You should have been offered a scan before now with a history of two fractures. Ask for it!

Just spotted this Mups.

I take a weekly tablet (Alendronic acid) and twice daily AdcalD chewable tablets, they contain calcium and vitamin D.

Re: Bone density test

I've requested a bone density scan and the doctor agreed to my having one. An appointment is on the way.

You don't get if you don't ask!

Re: Bone density test

I have cervical arthritis and Osteoporosis also arthritis in feet knees, hips and thumbs....can't tolerate the calcium tabs been on many so now try to help myself with my diet. I also have a Calin yogurt that's supposed to have enough vitamin D for a day.. Also have discs out in my thorac and neck.
