overcomming disability

I was fortunate enough when working for BT to have the chance to work with a person from the disability dept.

Ever heard of a POSSUM? no not the animal the aid to the disabled? no

At the time it was an amazing bit of kit. On a wall BT had put up a display like a chessboard. But in every square it worked different things, such as putting on a TV or answering the door.
If the disabled in a wheelchair could only move a hand or finger, by tapping a key on the chair it lit up and a square and moved the light to the appropriate square. then a quick double tap reacted that square and what that square represented worked

It as was used by those who could only suck or blow into a tube. Same principle and to be honest I never even thought that anything like that had even been thought of let alone made and out there to be used

Sounds ingenious, there must be something that has taken its place for the ones who have a disability, surely.

No idea I took early vol .retirement from BT in 1993 and this must have been at least 15 years before that as I joined BT in 1972.
I don't even know if BT still have such a department

Sounds fascinating. Isn't it amazing the aids that are available these days?
