Yes you are spot on DM, I couldn't remember the full saying but you brought it back to me. She had a lot of old sayings and superstitions as do many Irish country Women (and Men too).
It's good to know at least two Women who can whistle, as long as they are far away from me!.

So you're part Irish too, JF? My Dad was English and Irish, my Mom German and Irish ...

I obtained Irish citizenship in 2008, which you are entitled to do if you have had an Irish grandparent, which I did. I have of course retained my British citizenship.
