Farming families on tv!

I have been watching the the family farming series recently, both
the Our Yorkshire farm and the other one which covers various
farms throughout the UK, and l am thoroughly enjoying both of
them !
They make a pleasant relief from the endless repeats and the
numberless cooking drivel we are presented with elsewhere
on TV?
The thing that strikes me most about them is the difference
between the youngsters portrayed there and the average youngster
living in the city or town enviroments elsewhere in uk?
They seem so enthusiastic and willing to help their parents with
chores etc, even the tots seem vigorous and confident and talk
freely with their parents?
This is not so apparent in our townie kids imo, the ones l have
observed dont appear to help out in the household chores at all?
And if pressed get stroppy or sulky?
Also they dont seem to have enthusiasm for much except socialising!
Has anybody else noticed this phenonemon??

Yes, on our last house move the one thing at the top of my checklist was 'Must be in the country'

There's no way I would live in a city (or even a large town) now. The worst aspects of human on human conditions occur in cities, country folk are much nicer

I love 'Our Yorkshire Farm' the children are amazing the way even the youngest ones take their part in jobs around the farm.
That would be my idea of a dream life on a remote farm.

Re: Farming families on tv!

Ive not seen this but then it might not be shown here?

I live in the country and yes the youngsters here are very much different to townies, they respect the country side and work hard within the community, raising money for charities to delivering food parcels and medicines to the elderly and vulnerable

Where I work, Sam, who just turned 13 last week has grown up driving tractors and forklifts and has spent lockdown learning to drive the delivery vans - hes a better ( more confident ) driver then me

Kids are out on the tractors from about 14 bringing in the silage and harvest

Sam works in the yard at work, grows his own veg for the family and chops the pallets into kindling to sell. Yes he does have a mobile and his favourite sites are tractors and farming ones

Re: Farming families on tv!

I agree with all who said country children are more helpful & confident, but those children on the farm have been taught from a very early age to respect their parents, be helpful & that has turned them into confident people. How many town/city children get the same opportunities to help on farms with any job going, or on the land, very few if any. Those parents, but not all, don't seem to have time for their own children, too busy either working all hours in jobs the children couldn't help with or just wanting their children out of their sight. We seem to have a few of the later two, here also now. Which is sad as this used to be a lovely village.

But the townie kids could ALLhelp with the household chores and
things like mowing the little patch of grass out back Tiffany
even keeping their things tidy would help??
Like you say sometimes the parents are to blame?

Re: Farming families on tv!

I think that kids living in the country are just not so reliant on the internet. BB is sketchy , we only had dial up speeds until two years ago so gaming and streaming were a no no. They are also reliant on the family for friendships as they get bused into schools and living remotely means theres no just popping around to a friends house. Kids here have to still make their own entertainment, out in the fields, swimming in rivers, fishing and hunting and riding

Family is very important, whole families meet up for Sunday lunch, grandparents, even great grandparents downwards and they all celebrate birthdays together, theres no getting out of a family birthday party

As you enjoyed watching the Owen family, seek out and read Amanda Owen's books for a better insight as to what drives them all. I have read them and enjoyed every minute of my time spent
