Requirement to sign prescriptions suspended from November

The Government has temporarily suspended the requirement for patients (or their representatives) to sign the back of NHS prescription forms or EPS tokens. This change comes into effect from 1st November 2020 and will last initially until 31st March 2021.

As part of the social distancing measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus and to assist in the management of the serious risk or potentially serious risk to human health in response to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Ministers in England have agreed to temporarily suspend the need for patient signatures on prescription services forms.

The changes will be kept under review and further extensions may be granted if there continues to be a cross infection risk. The temporary suspension will be lifted once it is deemed safe for patients to resume signing of forms.

It's rare to have a paper prescription these days. So many are online.

One of my prescribed meds needs signing for but for months now, even with a change of pharmacy, the staff have said to me ‘not to worry, we’ll do it.’

Actually I picked up a prescription from the chemists the other day and no-one asked me to sign anything and I wasn't charged so they must already have a system in place..... never occurred to me.

I have. It was routine for my pharmacy but not since the dark ages. This today:

"It looks like you're running low on the following medication.

Getting medication can take 5-10 days depending on your GP. Our process involves getting the prescription, doing checks in our pharmacy and putting it in the post."

"Atorvastatin

40mg tablets

Runs out on 09 November"

5-10 days?
Blimey, my surgery and pharmacy say to allow 4 days. It has always been ready in that time.

Ours is 3 days. As far as signing for meds, I think I've only done that 3 or 4 times since I retired.
