Justice must be done and be seen to be done. If there is evidence of murder, then there needs to be a trial, and if they are found guilty to be punished as the laws allow, nothing wrong in that at all !!!

Re: Pensioner Soldier charged with Murder in Ireland.

Let's start by prosecuting the Fenian pensioners, give them a fair trial, and then hang the SOB's (with a short drop).

Then let's rule out any of the UK armed forces or police who were in fear of their lives, or responded to potentially fatal attacks made against them - but taking care to take account of when weapons had been "ghosted" away by Fenians or their supporters.

But the barstewards in Government at the time, didn't give them a fair trial, they just locked them up in the Maze prison without trial, or used the 'Diplock' courts process - hardly 'natural justice' was it???

Yes indeed. The law should be upheld. Strangely, though, the law doesn't seem to be upheld against 'certain people', especially when politicians feel it is in their interest to 'let them off'.

Disgusting.

Re: Pensioner Soldier charged with Murder in Ireland.

The use of so called Diplock courts is interesting.

Facing civil war taking place between a population having to revert self help and unconventional fighters from a Fifth Column where witnesses for both prosecution and defence were being intimidated and worse even if they came forward, and where an impartial jury was impossible to even come close to guaranteeing there was no other option. In effect a Diplock Court is a magistrates court on acid.

Worth keeping in mind too that both fenians and Loyalist engaging in self defence were subject to Diplock Courts.

Hi

The Rules of Engagement are plain, follow them and you are in the clear.

Any action should be taken against the Politicians at the time, not those on the ground.

This would involve holding the IRA responsible as well.

Not to mention the Eire Governments, in many cases --- lets just say less than proactive in prosecuting the terrorists attacking a part of Britain.

Or the USA for not preventing funding for the IRA especially in the case of "Noraid".

Since May hasn't given immunity to soldiers in Northern Ireland, it now gives the 'green light' to pursue all those who, in addition to taking part in 'Bloody Sunday', were also responsible for the Bally Murphy massacre.
