I used to get that all the time in my last house when one particular bulb came to an end it would trip the circuit breaker.

The socket tester mentioned in one of the posts can't be relied on for accurate testing. All that they can tell you is that the socket is connected properly, they can't tell you if the earth is adequate. I use one which has an audio setting. I only use it to confirm that a socket has been turned off.
Good advice Judd and the ceiling fan isn't plugged into a socket outlet

Seeing as l had no idea, if the various fuses were ok or not. I wonder is there a gadget for testing fuses?
I have a little square one for testing the life in batteries.

A cheap multimeter will do that for you.

Something like this. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mercury-600...c=1&th=1&psc=1

Re: Advise On Fuse Amperage... Please, Please.

Bottom line is there's no real way of identifying what (if any) the fault is/was. Could be as simple as the fuse blew, which is unusual but not impossible.

Am sure you'll report if there's a repeat occurrence. Although the original is 5Amp, either a 3 or 5 would probably suffice given the likely load.
