Windows 10 - KB4568831

This is offered on my PC as an "optional update" and is described as "2020-07 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4568831)".

Apparently, "This non-security update includes quality improvements. " so I won't rush to install it .....

Personally, I'd welcome all Windows Updates to be 'optional'.

I don't automatically object to updates, but I would really want to know what is included - and more importantly, wait to find out if it has had any adverse effects on people's installations - before choosing to install them.

Same here, so I do tend to defer updates nowadays .....

They are optional if you run Windows Professional and you can download that from MS and then buy a key for it on eBay for less than a fiver.

That said I usually update when they turn up. This one is out of cycle unless they've movedon from patch Tuesday and it just arrived and the last of those I saw was correcting something they'd messed up badly.

Re: Windows 10 - KB4568831

KB4568831 is still optional but now I am being told "There were problems downloading some updates, but we’ll try again later. If you keep seeing this, try searching the web or contacting support for help. This error code might help: (0x80070013)"

The error code 0x80070013 you receive from Windows 10 indicates that you are trying to install a driver on your computer that is already installed, or that you are installing a driver that is less compatible with your hardware than the one you already have.
ETA Permitted KB4568831 but still got the error. Re-booted and then discovered installation was in progress - completed OK.

Re: Windows 10 - KB4568831

On my laptop, the "optional update" was available so I selected it but then Windows "Checked for Updates" and said there were none .....

So I carried on with scheduled maintenance, returning to the laptop an hour or so later to find that Windows required a restart to complete installation of the (now downloaded) "optional update" .....
