Different Standards Between Hospitals & Local Surgeries.

After much moaning, on here, about my perception of the service offered by my local Medical Centre, I have, yesterday had to go to Frimley Park Hospital after bypassing the system and asking for help on 111.

Wow! What a difference!

Frimley Park has staff, at the entrance who do two things - check you for Corvid & then delve into your symptoms & reason for arrival.

Details are written up and visible, on the system, as you move around.

Then you are escorted to a Triage area where Nurses gather every detail & take tests (heart, etc) - they seem to check everything in a chatty & cheerful way.

Then the Doctor arrives & does the final diagnosis, gives me the plan, explains the options.

In short, Extremely well Managed, extremely well informed, total confidence.

It all leaves me wondering why there is such a difference from our local surgery.

I know where I'll be going for any future help!

Our surgery is in an old building, no room to swing a cat. My husband had to wait outside until he was allowed in. People without internet access are going to have difficulty for sure.

My GP surgery is a nightmare. I dread going there, or trying to make an appointment even.
There is two female doctor I like, but I cannot get on with the male doctors at all. I always come out feeling totally unlistened to and a waste of time going.
There has been no end of complaints about the reception staff too, and I am not surprised as they are mostly very unwelcoming and even hostile at times. I had to make a complaint a while back when one actually shouted at me! Horrible woman.

So is ours - Grade 2 listed so they can't do anything to improve it like build a much needed extension. It's also in a conservation area so they can't put in a tiny parking area or even a bike rack in the rather large garden.

Our local surgery can best be described as a 'Shed'....
The receptionist is very nice indeed, but she sits alone behind a desk at the back of the room and the only way to converse is via an intercom on the outside door. Some very sick patients did make it into the the foyer between the two doors and then expired, making it very difficult to step over the bodies and enter the waiting room....Your best bet is to walk alongside the canal, where you will find the doctor sat on the bank fishing most days. You can sit by his side while he offers you a fag and a consultation. Best not to accept a cup of tea out of his flask though because he doesn't take milk or sugar.....YUK!

Luckily I've only had to go to the surgery once since March and that was last week for my Vit B12 injection.

I get my repeat prescriptions ordered online and then either pick up from chemist or chemist will deliver.

I have had 2 phone consultations and it was very smooth, with my favourite doctor too which when I have to go to sugery itself I rarely can get in with him.

One of the receptionists is brilliant at her job and it feels like she's my mate! She always does her best to accommodate my needs. One of the other receptionists is a snotty cow with attitude. The rest are ok.

I always ask to see one particular practice nurse, she is so good at her job.

If you wanted to give a second opinion, you could take your own milk & sugar.

Hospitals are for helping sick people
Surgeries are for making money.
