Should not this law also be in force for pedestrians who step out into the road head down looking at a mobile phone and not paying attention to what may be approaching on the road. The road is for the use of motorists and cyclists. The pavements are for the use of pedestrians who may cross the roads by using the official crossing points. If this cyclist had knocked this woman down on an official crossing point then it would have been a different matter.
If pedestrians used the pavements and not the roads then the motorist/cyclist with use the roads and not the pavements.
Walking without due care and attention? Drunk in charge of a body? They could make daydreaming a criminal offence.

In most European countries the pedestrian has contributory liability in an accident. In the US jaywalking in against the law. In communist states pedestrians were only allowed to cross at pedestrian crossing.

We don't have such laws here yet so the judgement was according to our legal system. If we had different laws then id totally agree with others.

Re: Cyclist and the yoga teacher

They should have a test for cyclists and licensing/insurance if they are using major highways.

If government want to encourage more people to cycle in major cities this would be have a negative effect.

Re: Cyclist and the yoga teacher

Unfortunately a few rogue cyclists are ruining the reputation of the whole group. I'm sure i would be far more sympathetic had i not experienced and witnessed the most aggressive and irresponsible behaviour from some of the lycra louts.

Heavens above are you an avocado toast eating leftie yoga enthusiast or something ?

No one barring yourself is worried about her profession or eating habits much less what political party she favours .

These RED HERRINGS are pathetic in the extreme !

She could be a couch potato hooker who eats jam donuts and spanks Tory ministers .

She was still EQUALLY AT FAULT

The judge said so .

Are we clear ?

Re: Cyclist and the yoga teacher

Her denial of personal responsibility for her actions, playing the blame game does not help either of them and is what people are angry about.

The judge has set a precedent over a contentious isssue.

You have to judge the case properly .
The judge actually said she the woman was equally at fault but still awarded her costs .
Maybe is because she's young and blonde .
Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done .
Hundreds of people obviously feel that justice has not been done and have donated towards his costs .
Quite right too !
I don’t see how anyone can rationally argue against the judgement .
