Re: Can Men And Women Just Be Good Friends?

I've had loads of platonic male friends over the years (more than female friends actually as I get on better with males than females) and have never had a problem "drawing the line".

The biggest problem I've ever encountered is the mans other half getting jealous, which although is unfounded, I understand.

No I don't believe men and women can be just friends. The woman will think they are just friends but the man will always be thinking about a potential leg over. Men can be incredibly helpful and supportive as "friends" when they are in fact hoping for something more.

I found work colleagues were the worst you had to interact and were often in one to one situations.

I wouldn't call them friends though not in the main anyway.

I absolutely agree with this unless the man is gay.

I haven't found that true at all, with the men I know well.

That sounds like you are speaking from experience Annie

I think that's a terrible shame, take it from me, there are some decent blokes out there that don't try to take advantage.

Along with good male friends I've had my fair share of time wasters as well so I made it a rule that whenever I got friendly with a man I would tell them straight off that there would be no funny business and if that's what they're after then go look somewhere else.

You have certainly opened the box there.
But why do you think it is just the men that as you say want the ‘potential leg over’?
There are plenty of women that would welcome the the leg over as part of a relationship.
I have encountered on the pages of Facebook where the lonely widows would welcome a male friend with benefits.

That's true. I once had a female friend come onto me. That was the end of that "friendship"!

Re: Can Men And Women Just Be Good Friends?

When older, yes I think men and women can be just friends. I have quite a few female friends and reckon it can be guaranteed to stay at nothing more than that.

It's different when young though. One or the other of the friends will have it in the back of their minds to turn the friendship into something more if the situation arises.
