The only time I kill ants is if they start invading the house. Nests outside just get left to their own devices.
As I mentioned on another thread a while back, when on a holiday abroad I was ligged face down on a sunbed watching ants and put a dead wasp in front of one of them. It went away to fetch reinforcements and they carried it away, first stripping its wings off. Fascinating creatures.

When I lived in Spain we had loads of ants in our garden, I used to watch them working, it was fascinating. How on earth can they lift what they lift. Amazing creatures.

and many years ago I watched a film where millyons of the gits (in the voice of Del Trotter) in a jungle crawled all over a couple sitting on a cabin decking (sort of). They were allllllllllllll over the humans, even the face. Makes me itch just thinking about it.
