Re: PMQ about pensions for women

Surely you can retire at any age especially if you plan for it.

I retired at 60 as a self funded retiree, since I turned 65 I get a part pension (means tested) from the government but the majority of my pension is my superannuation which I (and my employer) put away while I was working.

I could have accessed my superannuation at 55 but the tax free status only comes into effect at 60 and, anyway, I still enjoyed my job then.

Re: PMQ about pensions for women

When we initially talked about changing pension ages to me them equal daftly I thought it would make sense to bring us all into line at 60 that would have been fairer for men and women.

Re: PMQ about pensions for women

As women tended to retire earlier than men but are the sex who lived longer, will this change in time now the retirement age is now equal ?

Re: PMQ about pensions for women

There is a tranche of women with particular birthdates who have fared particularly badly with all the changes to pension ages. It doesn't feel as though it's beyond the wit of man to introduce some mitigating measures, which would not be too costly for the country nor devastating for the people concerned

Re: PMQ about pensions for women

I was one of those women, born in 1954, women born a year earlier could have their pensions at 61 or 62, I have to wait until 65 1/4.

Re: PMQ about pensions for women

The last time I looked it was 65 and a bit. It was a long time ago, though.

I hope they come up with something more reasonable than that.

I'd take 63 or 64.

Just as long as it's not 70 to pay for the immigrants ...

The problem is no one saw the age of collecting the state pension being moved, all to do with the financial crisis and what monies there should have been for pensions as undoubtedly been been spent, whether this was on the bail outs or the wasted wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, there is only so much money and pensioners aren't high on any ones list, save an easy target to hit.

Re: PMQ about pensions for women

I remember, when it became evident that technology was going to make much of the workplace automatic and workers redundant, that jobs would be shared, the working week would be reduced to 3 or 4 days, hours would be much shorter and retirement at 50.

What happened??
