Rare Moon Image

The moon passed between ‪NASA‬’s Deep Space Climate Observatory and the Earth, allowing the satellite to capture this rare image of the moon’s far side in full sunlight. As the moon is tidally locked to the Earth and doesn’t rotate, we only ever see the one face from the Earth.

Re: Rare Moon Image

The moon is a very strange mysterious planet. Or should we simply call it a satellite ? Its positioning in space to Earth is what gives us our balance. Mostly in regards to the movement of our tides.
Some lunatics claim the the Moon is a artificial satellite and maybe even hollow as well.

Despite all the speculations out there, what is certain is, that there is a man on the Moon and that it is made of cheese

Re: Rare Moon Image

The moon does rotate, just once in each circumnavigation of the earth. If it didn't do so we would see all around the moon's surface.

Only providing the link Alan as to what the techies say about this moon shot

NASA revealed this type of "Earth rise" visual would be impossible to see from the lunar surface, only from an orbiting craft. “Since the moon is tidally locked, Earth is always in the same spot above the horizon, varying only a small amount with the slight wobble of the moon,” explained Mark Robinson of Arizona State University.

More great famous pictures.

Since you seem to be an aficionado of the, stars in the heavens, you should shift your gaze a bit towards Mars. There are a lot of strange things happening on its surface and overtime we will be surprised by what we find there

Its all a bit confusing really. I have been monitoring some of the pictures NASA has sent back from Mars and its not about little green men, but strange structures and old river beds. There may not be life there now, but there may have been in the remote past

Re: Rare Moon Image

Slightly odd don't you think that if the sun is truly where it is claimed to be in this shot, that the moon appears to be casting no shadow onto the Earth.

The setup ought to be really a lunar eclipse and yet there is only the tiniest suggestion of a shadow on the right hand side.

The camera is clearly to the side of the moon here so why is there no shadow?

Re: Rare Moon Image

Taking this anomaly further, I decided to zoom in on this picture. It appears to be fake to me. You can clearly see the slightly yellowish pixilation around the moon indicating that the moon pic has been cut from a different picture and pasted on top of the Earth.
