Re: A big Connundrum

Hello Uncle Joe. You don't know me because I'm new here, but I do wish you well and will pray for the best for you. My dad who is 83 just went thru pinched nerves in his back and he was in alot of pain. I'm not a fan of pain and have worked in Cardiology for 12 yrs. I'm sure whatever you decide will be what is what you think is best for you and what you are willing to do. Your Christmas and New Year plans? Pffft...you're more important! Plus, who says you have to celebrate them when all else do?! In any case, I just wanted to say hello and that I read your thread and am wishing the best for you. Maybe if you have to have the holidays earlier, folks here can do that with you too! Take care and I await your next post!

Re: A big Connundrum

[QUOTE=Uncle Joe;132978]Right folks, as you all know, I suffer from arthritis and have had both hips and both knees replaced. The Right hip was replaced nearly eight years ago. Have been experiencing pain and weakness in this joint over the past few months and have had blood tests, x-rays and an MRI scan. Saw surgeon yesterday. X-rays and MRI scan show no problem with the joint, BUT the blood test shows a heightened level of chromium in my blood which may mean that the joint is leaching chromium into my blood stream. Will be going to see my G.P later this morning (wife of my surgeon) and chat about the side-effects of the chromium on me - Google doesn't tell me much about that.

QUOTE]

UJ, the chromium leaching into your bloodstream is probably the type known as hexavalent chromium, ie manufactured chromium. Based on this, for me personally, theres no question as to what I would do if I was in your position. It would be get the joints replaced.

Re: A big Connundrum

Have had consultation with my G.P. today - upshot is that I will now be placed on the surgical list for yet another hip operation - probably sometime early next year, so whilst all of you are struggling in snow and ice and bitterly cold, or wading in torrential rain, I will be tucked up in a nice warm hospital bed being cared for by a team of pretty nurses who will be catering for my slightest whim.

At least these arrangements will mean you'll be able to spend Christmas as you planned.

But there is one thing I'm very concerned about, Uncle Joe .............. how will you manage on hospital food???
