Not quite banned though, is it. Perhaps they have a problem with banning it as the oil companies have been fracking wells in the North Sea for decades.

AFAIK, 18 hours minimum every time that the limit is exceeded costing Cuadrilla £100,000 a day .....

True:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrau...United_Kingdom

Hydraulic fracturing in the United Kingdom started in the late 1970s with fracturing of the conventional oil and gas fields of the North Sea. It has been used in about 200 British onshore oil and gas wells since the early 1980s. The technique did not attract attention until licences use were awarded for onshore shale gas exploration in 2008.

Should fracking Bowland Shale continue, this is the area that will be affected:

At the moment, National Parks are protected but private property is not - frackers are permitted to drill under private property:

Government allows deep-energy drilling under private property

3 December 2014

Despite 40,000 objections, the Government has decided to allow deep drilling to explore “the natural energy resources beneath our feet” without landowners’ permission. The controversial move could make it easier to “frack” for natural gas.

If money hasn't changed hands yet, it soon will:

https://app.croneri.co.uk/feature-ar...ivate-property

Entrepreneur and billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, who founded the giant Ineos chemical group, which operates the Grangemouth refinery complex in Scotland, is planning a different approach to fracking.

He wants to kick-start the stalled UK shale gas industry and stimulate a bonanza by giving away billions of pounds of revenues to communities and landowners affected by fracking activity.

His aim is to give 6% of any revenues from oil and gas wells to landowners (4%) and local communities (2%) in return for their reasonable support and co-operation. The offer is estimated to be worth some £2.5 billion and is much larger than the 1% offered by other companies.
In effect, bribes .....

Re: drilling in UK stopped because of earth tremor

There are risks and eventual costs to fracking and drilling - no doubt about it. Disaster is inevitable; it's just a question of when and how bad the damage will be - and how much we are willing to accept.

We were unable to surf, swim, or walk the beach for almost two years after the BP oil spill here on the gulf coast of Florida. Worse, the effects on the local wildlife was damning and sickening. Everyone with hands worked tirelessly to do what they could in the recovery effort:

Before

After/during the spill. The shoreline looked like this for TWO YEARS:

What the frack .....

Saturday night's "micro seismic event" at Cuadrilla's site near Blackpool is believed to be the biggest-ever fracking-related tremor in the UK.

The company said the tremor, detected at 11.01pm, lasted for about one second and occurred when no fracking was taking place.

A spokeswoman for the company said: "Minor ground movements of this level are to be expected."

Under UK rules, work must be suspended for 18 hours if seismic activity with a magnitude exceeding 0.5 is detected.

According to the British Geological Survey, the tremor was 1.2 miles deep and was felt by residents in areas including Great Plumpton, Blackpool and Lytham St Annes.
Although I was a few miles away, I didn't feel it because I was at a party .....
