Still got your swallows?

I saw 3 on a wire as we travelled the length of the SW today but haven;t seen any at home for a week or more.
Lucky youngsters who stayed - they must have been able to fatten up nicely whilst the weather has been so nice.
Have you still got yours or have they packed their bags and gone south?

Re: Still got your swallows?

Our last lot finally left the begining of the week, to be replaced with flocks of Pink Footed Geese....

Re: Still got your swallows?

There was a little dead swallow on the veranda rood when we got back last Saturday. Suppose it's just one of the many that don't make the long journey - it just fell out of the sky and happened to land somewhere where it would be seen but not 'cleared up' by the scavengers? Or maybe the sparrow hawk was after it? Can't think of any other explanations

I don't think we ever had them this year, the weather's been awful.

I seen a few middle of last week. Not seen any since so assuming they've left for sunnier and warmer climes.

I almost never see swallows; we have them here but they're mostly down by the Potomac river where they nest under the bridges. Don't know if they've left or not.

The Canada geese haven't flown South yet; I love to hear them honking overhead.
