Re: Saving the Bees

If you really want to save the bees, please leave dandelions alone. They're the 1st flower they need when coming out of hibernation.

Of course, no pesticides. Someone I know once saw a staggering robin who fell down dead, my god. It wasn't because he was hiding a bottle in the bushes either! It was spring, there could've been a nest full of babies somewhere crying to be fed, who knows? If they don't kill the birds directly, the poisons will kill them via the 'food' they eat in the ground.

There's no such thing as safe pesticides!

Re: Saving the Bees

A very interesting thread and of course, we need bees more than they need us.

It makes my blood boil when people have total disrespect for the other creatures who inhabit this planet with us as if they're of a lower order than we are. Not true; but mankind is hell-bent on destroying insects and wildlife for their own selfish needs.

I have two huge buddleas in my sadly overgrown garden, but this year I haven't as yet seen one bee.

Awww, don't quote me but I think I heard that there's some mite problem, that's killing bees

I imagine if you googled it, you may find out something.

Take care

Re: Saving the Bees

You will be pleased to know, the bees seem to be on the increase, we have hundreds in our garden, only yesterday at 4 - 15 am they were at work on the honeysuckle.

Re: Saving the Bees

I got lots of bees in my philadelphus! I blame that awful yellow peril, Oil seed rape. It stinks, makes my eyes run and it's everywhere! Now I find out their spraying it with stuff that kills bees! I had a lovely (not attractive) shrub at the old house with small white flowers and variegated leaves I can't find it in the garden centres, but it was always covered in insects.

Re: Saving the Bees

There are lots of bees in my garden the ceanothus was alive with them and they have moved on to the lavender bed .

I was getting a bit worried earlier in the year there were so few bees about . I think they are taking full advantage of the warm sunny weather, they don't like wet summers.

I've been chased by a fair few bees over the last few weeks so they're definitely about
