Eye popping pictures and very thought provoking. Those little creatures flying back and forth using regurgitated stuff to create such a structure. Quite something. That last picture looks a bit messy though . Looks like a few wasps had a bad stomach during the build .

Aren't wasps clever the structures are so perfectly formed.

There are a couple of abandoned nests in my loft.

They're not all bad, just like to inflict pain for no apparent reason. Very good builders though! Beautiful photos.

hey ~ great contrasting colours Twiz

Just realised. Those 'upright' (messy) bits on the nest are keeping the layers apart, so not accidental then. Precision engineering albeit seemingly random.

It was so very fragile and light to handle that it broke up

Really good pictures Rachel, interesting but a bit scary too cos I get a bit worried round wasps.

As a child, I was stung by a swarm of wasps and have spent most of my adult life being terrified of them. In fact anything buzzing near me has been a worry.

Have calmed down an awful lot in the past few years though.
