Re: 'Where is Priti Patel?'

https://www.express.co.uk/news/polit...-system-latest

Speaking in the House of Commons, the Home Secretary Priti Patel said: "The Bill before us today will play a vital role in our recovery plans for the future. It will end free movement and pave the way for our new points-based immigration system.

"A firmer, fairer and simpler system that will attract the people we need to drive our country forward through the recovery stage of coronavirus laying the foundation for a high wage, high skill, productive economy."
So, will we be seeing more of Ms Patel, in person, during the "drive forward through the recovery stage" .....

The House of Commons approved the general principles of the law to introduce a new post-Brexit immigration system for the UK by 351 votes to 252 on Monday. It will now go on to receive further scrutiny.

The legislation will put EU and European Economic Area (EEA) citizens on an equal footing to immigrants from outside the bloc.

Re: 'Where is Priti Patel?'

I'd very much like to see a target of ZERO immigration with a concentration on draining the swamp of illegals and much much more reporting of criminals especially if they had been granted British citizenship.

Moreover I wish there had been a surcharge placed on all immigrants such as they were taxed at a higher level in order to make a contribution to infrastructure that had been built and paid for before they entered OUR country. 20% would be a reasonable level for 10 years but for 25 years for "asylum seekers"

International travellers, including returning UK citizens, could face spot checks and £1,000 fines if they fail to self-isolate for 14 days after arriving in the country under measures to guard against a second wave of coronavirus.

The home secretary, Priti Patel, is expected to outline the plans, which will be introduced early next month, at the daily Downing Street briefing on Friday, the Northern Ireland secretary, Brandon Lewis, confirmed on Friday morning.
Is it really nearly a month since her last briefing appearance on 26th April .....

Her relevance to the key matters of the effect of the Chinese Plague on the UK is not particularly high.

She gives every indication that she is kicking the useless obstructive and recalcitrant civil servants in her ministry into doing what they should be doing without question.

Today, the briefing is expected to take place at 5pm on BBC One.

To make room for the broadcast, Pointless has been moved to BBC Two.
Priti Patel or Alexander Armstrong ..... it's a tough one, but I don't want to smack Alexander's face, so Pointless it is .....

UK arrivals could face £1,000 fines if they break quarantine

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52765054

Anyone arriving in the UK from abroad could be fined £1,000 if they fail to self-isolate for 14 days, the government is expected to announce.

Under the plans, health officials would be able to carry out spot checks to check whether people were complying.

The new rules to help tackle Covid-19, which will also apply to British people returning from abroad, are not expected to come into force until next month.

Home Secretary Priti Patel will give more details at the daily briefing.
Spot checks is it ..... by "health officials" .....

Well, they're going to need a lot - about 150,000,000 people enter the UK in a normal year ..... Even if the number drops by 90%, that still leaves 15,000,000 to be spot checked .....

Re: 'Where is Priti Patel?'

For those (like me) who didn't watch Patel's performance:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/li...uarantine-plan

  • The press briefing has now ended, here is a summary of the main points:
  • Two-week quarantines will be imposed on new arrivals to the UK from 8 June, with fines for anyone who breaches the measure to prevent new waves of coronavirus from overseas. The home secretary, Priti Patel, announces that mandatory self-isolation will not apply to people coming from Ireland, medics tackling Covid-19 and seasonal agricultural workers.
  • Breaches would be punishable with a £1,000 fixed penalty notice in England, or prosecution with an unlimited fine, while devolved nations can set out their own enforcement approaches.
  • Border Force will be able to refuse entry to foreign citizens who are not UK residents during border checks, while removal from the country could be used as a last resort.
  • The chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, said reopening schools was likely to push the R rate up. He said: “The broader risk in terms of opening schools is that as soon as you introduce any contact, you put pressure on the R and you put pressure on numbers, and that’s true of anything we are going to do in terms of changes to contact.”
  • Patel said ministers would work to “find new ways to reopen international travel and tourism in a safe and responsible way”. She told the daily Downing Street press conference: “We also recognise how hard these changes will be for our travel sector, and leisure sectors, who are already struggling through these unprecedented times.”
  • Asked if it was inevitable that people would travel to beauty spots across the UK following an easing of measures, Patel said people can enjoy the outdoors as long as they follow the advice. She said: “It is inevitable that obviously the public will be out and about a lot more, but of course our message is clear to the public - yes, enjoy being outdoors, we have encouraged people to go out, but we have put a very clear caveat around that.”
"Clear", my a**e .....

From the transcripts of Patel's performance, it seems, yet again, that the government line is laudatory towards the nation's citizens, lacking in strategic planning and evasive on tactical detail .....

Additionally, Ms Patel did not present us with the latest shoplifting figures .....

Re: 'Where is Priti Patel?'

I ask again, what is it about Ms Patel that causes you so much offence?
