Do you understand how zero contracts came about? many don't. Zero contracts came about because of EEC ruling and the imposition of T.U.P.E.
The Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006 (SI 2006/246) known colloquially as TUPE
This not only covers business transfers but employees rights generally.
Part of T.U.P.E says that if anyone is employed either as part time or casual labour after 6 months of employement has to be made a full time employee.
The only option left to companies is to get around this is to use zero contracts. This means that the employees are not employed on any sort of regular basis
If we didn't accept EEC rulings more would have regular albeit part time or as casual labour work.
Try studying T.U.P.E.
in full and maybe you will be suprised on how many rights employees have.
When I had my own company I went into this in great detail with a solicitor specialising in employement law and I have to say I was staggered what an employer can and can't do.
One part of TUPE really shocked me, and those employees who don't know about it can loose out big time. I am not going to say what it is,it is up to the individual to find out or pay an employement solicitor to explain like we had to.
So Malc.27 before moaning about low pay -zero contracts etc find out why first
