Re: Muffins

These are my English Muffins, and they are the most asked for type of bread in my repertoire by family and friends

I got the recipe for them whilst volunteering for a week with the winner of ITV's Britains Best Bakery programme which was Hambletons Bakery in Rutland.

It would be wrong of me to put up the recipe on a forum though. However be assured they are veyr scrummy and perfect with poached eggs on top and hollandaise for Eggs Benedict.

In terms of sweet muffins of the kind you see in coffee shops, the ones I make most often are Rhubard and stem Ginger with a little cinnamon. I make them with spelt flour rather than ordinary baking flour for better nutritional value.

I see you meant the sweet cake ones!

Sorry. I thought you meant proper muffins, as per Realist's photo!

My previous reference to cheese and pepper muffins might have confused you!

I think that cake muffins were an American import.
I don't like them...too sweet for me.

By the way, have you seen the number of calories in cake muffins? It will blow your head off!

Re: Muffins

Sweet muffins are indeed an American import. They have no more calories than other cake though

Never made muffins?
They are fabulous homemade and I make them all the time.
My husband , neighbour, friends and family appreciate my homemade goodies also.
They put a smile on most people’s face.

Those are muffin imposters that should have been named cupcakes. Horrid things. Real muffins are dense with good nutritious substance and not sickeningly sweet or fluffy.
Real pumpkin date , banana pecan, apple raisin etc.

Good stuff.

Well, after ** years, I have finally had my first Muffin!

My verdict? They are scrummy-scrumptious and I've bought another packet of them today!

Thank you Rhian for introducing me to them!
