Re: Vaccines

When I first started school, we had various diseases circulating. Two kids in my class contracted Polio, one lived for some years inside an iron lung but eventually succumbed. Then there were bouts of diptheria. Having to have my tonsils extracted, I was kept in hospital for more than three weeks in lock down, because another kid at t'other end of the ward contracted diptheria and the whole ward was placed in quarantine.

These diseases have now, thankfully been eliminated due to vaccinations.

Re: Vaccines

Good points UJ I was lucky by time I started school all those were well under control. That to me means they are working and working well.

Re: Vaccines

Realist, I spent 42 years working in Microbiology/Virology laboratories. Vaccines are one of the best scientific advances ever, end off.
Personally, taking into account your other posts in other forums, I think your having a laugh. I hear Tesco have a nice line of Trolls for Xmas by the way.

If I were a mod, which thank heaven I'm not, I would remind you that one of the Rules is to attack (that means discuss!) the post and not the poster!!

That diagram is just the right shape to have it printed onto bog roll.

Que? The article demonstrates how successful the polio vaccine has been (which is stated many times in the article). The fact that they are phasing out the old vaccine points to funding rather than efficacy.

I don't understand how this detracts from the fact that as UJ says we no longer have to grow up with the threat of polio in this country. I recently watched the film "breathe" and it was a terribly cruel illness for those who survived. How can anyone say that vaccines are useless (as per the antivax blog site's diagram) when you look at polio?
