It's an Omen - A Christmas Comet

There's a Christmas comet in the sky as well as the Geminids meteor shower this weekend.

Visible from all of Australia in the north east sky the comet 46P/Wirtanen will be visible until Tuesday in its closest pass until 2030. It looks green and is only 11million km away!

So it's two for the price of one this weekend.

A bit of a bummer - it is located in the sky near the Pleiades star cluster - please don't tell Realist.

Yes, we were, but it's been a while.

We've been one, or need one?

Perhaps you shouldn't answer that.

Anyhow, the Geminids were beautiful, but a series of cloudy day have left 46P/Wirtanen enigmatic.

This kind of event always brings up discussions about the theories surrounding possible astronomical events surrounding the Star of Bethlehem mentioned in the Bible. Just getting the date and season right are tricky.

I'm crossing my fingers too. I hope whoever it is up the road turns their security lights off. They were off the other night and it made such a difference.

I finally spied the little tuft of a comet a few nights ago. The neat thing about this one was that the orbital path made it possible to notice in the position change in just three hours time.
