Re: Britain Is Now Officially A Banana Republic !

Watch the tories increase support for Mays deal (the asylum bill as I call it) - it wont get through by any means but it will look more plausible (losing by, say, less than 100 votes) when she says she will go back to Brussels for more concessions.

This will also send a message to Comrade Compo that he is completely wasting his time calling a vote of no confidence.

An apt description for the UK at the moment. After reading this morning that these named Remain MP’s, in collusion with the pygmy himself, John Bercow, are actually plotting to bring down Theresa May’s government and decide themselves to completely ignore the will of the people and the result of the referendum and instead, either cancel Brexit, cancel Article 50, have a second referendum, or go back cap in hand to Juncker and his cohorts and beg to be let back in.

This fifth columns in our Parliament, because that is exactly what they are, are named below - these are the scum that want to bring down our elected government and take over the reigns of Brexit, by cancelling it and taking us back into the EU.

DOMINIC GRIEVE - Political has-been, still seething at being ousted from his Attorney General position. His constituency, Beaconsfield voted LEAVE. 50.7%

ANNA SOUBRY - Has threatened to side with Labour to bring the government down rather than vote No Deal. Her constituency Broxtowe, voted LEAVE 54.6%.

OLIVER LETWIN - Part of Thatchers team that dreamt up the hated Poll Tax, implemented the Leveson inquiry that threatened the freedom of the Press, was quoted as saying he would rather beg on the streets than send his children to a state school.
And called for huge spending cuts during the 2001 election campaign.
His constituency West Dorset, voted LEAVE. 51%

NICK BOLES - a typical elitist, part of the Notting Hill set of cronies that propelled David Cameron into power. Called for pensioners to lose free prescriptions and winter fuel payments. Quit as a minister before May could sack him
His constituency Grantham and Stamford voted LEAVE 59%.
.
SARAH WOOLASTON - Chairman of the Commons Health Select Committee.
Voted leave but has changed her mind and joined the fifth column.
Her constituency Totnes voted LEAVE 54.1%

NICKY MORGAN - sacked by Theresa May in her first cabinet reshuffle. Criticized the PM for “the height of public vulgarity” for wearing leather trousers in a photoshoot. Exposed for her hypocrisy when photographed herself with a £950 Mulberry handbag. Considered standing herself in 2016 but was humiliated when only a handful backed her. Still rankles over her demotion from Cabinet.
Her constituency Loughborough voted LEAVE 50.3%

ANTOINETTE SANDBACH - this is the woman who caused outrage by reporting a church-going pensioner constituent to the Poliice because she dared to object to her Remain views.
Her constituency Eddisbury, voted LEAVE 52.2%

JONATHAN DJANOGLY - took over John Major’s seat. Stripped of his duties for regulating claims management firms after discovery of failing to disclose conflict of interest regarding family members. It was alleged that he claimed parliamentary expenses to hire an au pair. Voluntary repaid £25,000.
His constituency Huntingdon voted LEAVE 55.3%

KEN CLARKE - ageing posterboy for Tory Pro-Europeans. Standing down at age 78, (18 years too late) at the next election.
His constituency Rushcliffe voted REMAIN (Leave vote 42.4%

JOHN BERCOW - Puffed Up elitist who revels in his role as House of Commons Speaker His impartiality and favouritism towards Remainers are very serious charges being levied against this Brexit arch-villain. Has faced several calls to resign after his car was shown a sticker which read “bollocks to Brexit”.
Seen by Remain MPs as their most important weapon in their battle to stop Brexit.

THE PLOT.(As I understand it after reading about it today)

Under our political system, all parties put forward a set of policies in a manifesto which they are then committed to enacting if elected. Before the last general election in June 2017, both the Conservatives and Labour, as well as the DUP, undertook to honour Brexit, which as we all know, 17.4 million people had voted for a year earlier.

In other words, the overwhelming bulk of the Commons, Tories, Labour and the DUP, made a solemn pledge to carry out the will of the majority as expressed in the referendum. Only about 50 MPs from LibDems, SNP and other small parties were returned on an anti-Brexit manifesto.

This means that those fifth column plotters named above were elected to government on the understanding that they would support Brexit, NOT THWART IT!
They cannot in good conscience renege on the contract they made with electors.

What Grieve and his plotters are cooking up is a constitutional outrage. They are being assisted in this by the insufferably puffed up Commons Speaker, John Bercow.
Last week, having plotted with Grieve in private, Bercow shockingly overrode long -established parliamentary convention to force Mrs May, if she is defeated tomorrow, to come back to the Commons within three days to set our alternative plans.

Assuming she loses the vote heavily, plotters with assistance from Labour MPs, will try to impose a series of “indicative votes”, foremost among would be a demand for a second referendum.

These fifth column will today, publish their draft legislation for a so-called “People’s Vote”, (as if the first referendum had never happened!) and as though they themselves are the government.
The worrying thing is that it may well get through because there is an anti-Brexit majority in the Commons which simply does not respect the outcome of the referendum.
If they could, they would ignore the first referendum completely.

These then, are the Guilty, the Liars, the Cheats, the Self-Serving, the Elite, plotting with the EU, with the supposedly meant to be completely impartial Speaker of the House of Commons, plotting to take over our government.

Get your heads around that!!! Your views please,
I strongly agree with all of that...
with one notable exception.

We are not a banana republic.

We are a banana kingdom.

Sad, isn't it?

No-one, and I mean Leavers or Remainers, should ever accept such an assault on our democracy.
I think you've lumped two concepts together.

I regard 'democracy' as rule by the people or their elected representatives.

In our case, democracy is the latter: rule by our elected representatives, but that is based on our elected representatives acting in the interests of the people who have elected them.

There will always be opposition to the elected government, just as there will never be a 100% vote for the elected government.

However, even this long-standing method of democracy falls down when our elected representatives fail to honour their promises on which the winning votes were based.

Talking of the Wizard of OZ...

In 1986, treasurer Paul Keating delivered his famous warning that Australia risked becoming a "banana republic". He then set about dramatically changing the Australian economy to the point now that we have not had a recession for nearly 30 years.

Perhaps this is the watershed in British politics where you actually get pollies really doing something and changing the face of Britain's economy, whether you are in or out of the EU.
